About Matt
I'm Matt. I'm a chartered accountant, a qualified personal coach, and (most of all) someone who loves helping people get unstuck and make their next move with a bit more clarity.
My route here wasn't planned. I qualified as a chartered accountant with the ICAEW in 2000, became a partner in a practice in 2002, spent a few years as a Finance Director, and founded Woodbridge & Co in 2012. Over those years, the same thing kept happening: client meetings that started with the numbers drifted into family, decisions, and the bigger picture. Clients told me I was a good listener often enough that I decided to take it seriously.
Business coaching grew out of my accountancy naturally. Today, I work with clients as a non-executive FD, sitting in on monthly board meetings, overseeing the preparation of management information, and supporting day-to-day financial decisions and strategy. The role suits the way I think: numbers as a way in, but the real work is conversations about priorities, people, and challenges. For an owner-manager who's carrying everything themselves, having someone in the room who genuinely understands both the finances and the weight of the decisions changes things.
Personal coaching is the natural next step. I'm a fully qualified personal coach (trained through the UK College for Personal Development and a member of the Association for Coaching), and the work picks up where business conversations naturally lead. The home life behind the business, the patterns we get stuck in, the things we want but haven't quite said out loud. Business affects home, and home affects business. I help people untangle the two and move forward with more clarity, less noise, and a clearer sense of what actually matters.
I tend to work best with owner-managers and people in senior roles who are carrying a lot — at work, at home, or both. You don't need to come with a polished problem statement. Most people don't.
Outside work, I'm a devoted husband, father and son. I love football, golf, reading, gardening and long walks. If anything here resonates, do get in touch. A first conversation is just that — a conversation.
